I have a bike!!

Well, I have a bike! It took two days of shopping and lots of talk but I have one, and it actually didn’t take too long. I figured that I could deliberate forever but in the end, it doesn’t make that much of a difference. I went to 5 different bike shops and narrowed it down to two after the first day. Some just didn’t have a great selection and/or didn’t seem to have particularly knowledgeable or enthusiastic staff. I ended up getting my bike at Ziggy’s in downtown Kitchener. This is also the closest shop to my house so that’s a bonus.

I was mainly looking at hybrid bikes in the below $500 price range. I figured that for my needs an entry level bike would be just fine. I mostly want to ride on local trails and parks and such, although a little road riding might be nice. I am hoping to join the local cycling club but I’m not sure if it’s right for me – they are divided into road and mountan groups, and since I don’t have either sort of bike I’m not sure if I’d fit in. More on that later, perhaps…

I got a Giant Cypress-R. It was $150 less than the comparable Trek that I tried so that was the breaking point. I did like the gripshifts on the treck but not enough to pay the difference :) It seems like a good bike – I liked the feel and its sister models have good reviews at e-opinions. I also liked the sales guy who helped me (all the other places had younger guys who didn’t seem to care about the sale) and the clincher was that they only had one left and it was in my favourite colour – red. I took that as a sign :)

I’m glad I saved that $150 because I already spent $100 on accessories! That adds up fast :) I’m excited about getting out for a bit before yoga class tomorrow!!

Hope you all are having a good Memorial day :) I’ve noticed that it’s pretty dead around here today. Y’all must be out barbequeing :D

Maybe I should blog this…
