You hear it all the time. Flash sites are evil. Flash is evil. Nielsen says that Flash is 99% bad.
But is it really? Is it always? I think there are some really good uses for flash, even for full sites. I’ve seen a lot of really cool band sites lately delivered in flash. This is an appropriate medium in this case because the site needs to provide more than just information. They need an experience.

This has gone far enough. That’s right, Nissan has released some new ads advertising their vehicles as “2.0″. The ad in the current issue of In Style describes their mini van as “Family Room_2.0″. Their US site (“turn up your speakers for the full experience“) seems to indicate that the madness has just begun. Check out the reflections on the navigation! No 2.0 site is complete without that! (puke)

I’ve just come across some rather strange ramblings from good ole usability “guru”, Jacob Nielsen that I thought I’d share. The first comes from a July 2006 article on screen resolutions. The first part of the article is sensible enough – design flexible width layouts. I would add that some people have browser elements (such as side panels) that take up more space on the screen. You can’t use screen resolution alone to decide how big someone’s browser is. He does have some good points about people with large screens not using maximized windows.
The bizarre-o stuff comes further down when he starts rambling about how in the future all professionals will have gigantic monitors and that web designs will have to cater to that.
