Anyway, point there was that table-free layouts aren't the be all and end all. Some of those nested div's and class-itis must have been avoidable. Adam K - we'd really like to run an open source solution. Right now the front-runner is drupal forums (we're using drupal for our content area so it would be nice to keep them together). I remember using IPB at a forum I visited awhile back and I did like it, but I can see that they are still using a lot of unnecessary tables. We're fussy ;) We've also looked at Vanilla and punBB. When using the built in controls you run into this type of stuff very often. Some controls are better than others but PlaceHolders and other larger elements render very poorly. A dead give away is the ct100 tag that is generated automatically if you don't provide the element an ID by hand. All in all this is more Microsoft's fault than The Toronto Stars. Shameless plug, but I used to work for IPS ( guys that make Invision Power Board ) before starting my company, and IPB is a pretty solid forum system.
