Surfing again with StumbleUpon
Has anyone tried StumbleUpon yet? I decided to check it out last week partly because we were getting a bit of traffic to our sites from it and I wanted to see what it was like. What fun! I can’t say that I’ve actually surfed like this in years. Probably not since the 90′s. Seriously.
Who just surfs the web anymore anyway? There’s so much crap out there, I can’t be bothered to sort through it. But I still like the web. I want to look at websites. I see a lot of websites and subscribe to a lot of feeds, but it’s just boring somehow. What sets StumbleUpon apart from other aggregation sites is that it’s just more fun! The randomness makes it entertaining, and you can pick from a wide range of topics. I don’t have to look at just tech news and even on that topic I’ve come across a ton of neat stuff I never would have found elsehwere.
That’s my 2 thumbs up for StumbleUpon
What about you? Have you tried it or are you more into a different bookmarking site?

I haven’t tried StumbleUpon yet. Are you really finding great content? I thought I gave up surfing because there wasn’t anything good on the Web, but now I wonder if it’s just age.

Yeah, I’ve found a ton of good stuff! The pages come up based on how many other people have voted for them – the more votes the more likely you are to see it. Here’s a few of the sites that I’ve found on there (a few of those I submitted myself… ). I just wish there was an option to not see any Flash sites…
Oh, and I forgot to mention in my original post – I actually switch to Firefox to use StumbleUpon! Not permantly, just for stumbling mind you. But that’s a big deal for me. Some people at Opera are working on a toolbar, and there are some individual buttons that work but they don’t offer the full experience yet.

I used StumbleUpon a while back, and loved it. I’ve been so wrapped up in blogging and work though, I just haven’t had the time to browse the Net like I used to

Dammit Megan… I just signed up out of interested and wasted two hours stumbling… I blame you for the loss of productivity

LOL! Fun though, innit
Today I found these cool free software stickers you can put on your computer to replace the proprietary stickers it comes with.

I also like buzzfeed.com… it’s somewhat similar and usually has interesting random news if you want to waste some time…

I like it but it sucks up too much time! That just means its serving its purpose though.

I have used it for quite a while. Most of my bookmarks are the result of a “Stumble”.
You do have to watch your time management though. I often have to hide the toolbar because that Stumble button taunts me until I click it when I’m trying to work
.

I guess it’s probably a good thing for me to have to switch browsers to use it. That way I’m not constantly tempted. I have to deliberately open Firefox if I want to Stumble (unless I happen to be testing something there …)

Ok, this is an old post, but I was just looking through your pages and I can relate to your post. I discovered stumbleupon a while ago too, and wrote a similar thing on my own blog. It really does feel “old skool”, back to the days when the Interweb was fun LOL.
I have stumbleupon on my browser now…. click… thumbs up for this post
